When we select materials for the home of our dreams, we usually consider factors such as design, practicality and durability. How safe the material is rarely comes to mind. Studies have shown that the quality of air indoors can be worse than that of outdoor air, and some of the contributing pollutants include materials and furniture, which could be emitting volatile organic compounds in a process known as off gassing. While you can air your home by opening the windows, why not choose the safest materials from the get go?
Laminates are commonly used in homes as they offer impressive decorative potential and are easy to clean. Lamitak laminates go one step further with their excellent rating for health and safety too, making them great choices for kitchens, children rooms, and hives of activity such as living areas. Commercial establishments such as healthcare facilities, and food and beverage outlets will also benefit from the laminates’ anti-bacterial qualities. Check out the local and international credentials Lamitak laminates and Newedge edgebands have achieved for your peace of mind; you can also use this list of certifications as a guide to decide on your other material selections.
Protect the health of vulnerable family members such as young children by using Lamitak laminates, which have anti-bacterial properties, in their rooms and play areas.
Featured laminate: artäk Mökki Blanc ART 1008D
- Issued by: TÜV SÜD PSB, the Singapore-based wholly owned subsidiary of TÜV SÜD AG, an international standards accreditation board
- Recognised: Worldwide
The octagon TÜV SÜD logo is an internationally recognised symbol of safety, security and sustainability. In tests for anti-microbial activity and efficacy, the results show that bacteria does not reproduce and multiply on Lamitak laminates, so they die over time. This property is great for kitchens, where food spills and crumbs on surfaces might attract bacteria to grow. As the elderly and very young children in your family have lower immunity, it is even more important to keep their spaces such as bedrooms and playrooms clean. Lamitak laminates can help enhance the cleanliness of these spaces as well as they inhibit the growth of bacteria on the surfaces where they are used.
The kitchen is a potential breeding ground for bacteria due to its hot and humid environment coupled with the presence of food. The Basic Black (CES 1108S) laminate keeps the cabinet surfaces of this kitchen germ-free thanks to Lamitak laminates’ anti-bacterial property.

Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Standard
- Issued by: The Greenguard Environmental Institute, an independent international certifying body for product and materials for low chemical emissions.
- Recognised: USA and worldwide
The Greenguard Indoor Air Quality standard was developed for the needs of the commercial building industry, and focuses on products such as building materials, seating and systems furniture. This comprehensive standard screens for more than 10,000 chemicals and places stringent limits on more than 360 individual Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) including formaldehyde. Greenguard standards also include a TVOC (Total VOC) cap to account for the total amount of emissions released by a product.
Having clean air in your home is crucial, especially if your interiors are air-conditioned and not naturally ventilated. There are many possible sources of VOCs in your home (such as materials, electronics, cleaning products and synthetic fragrances), and the build-up over time can trigger respiratory issues as well as other health problems for those with pre-existing health conditions.
Greenguard Gold Standard
The Greenguard Gold Certification (formerly known as Greenguard Children & Schools Certification) offers stricter certification criteria for chemical emissions as they address the indoor air quality needs of schools, daycare centres and other environments in which sensitive individuals such as children and the elderly spend a lot of time. It ensures that a product is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities.
Make sure your little ones are safe indoors with Greenguard-Gold-certified laminates from Lamitak which don’t release harmful chemical compounds into the air.
